Enhancement of Platinum Mass Activity on the Surface of Polymer-wrapped Carbon Nanotube-Based Fuel Cell Electrocatalysts

Cost reduction and improved durability are the two major targets for accelerating the commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEFCs). To achieve these goals, the development of a novel method to fabricate platinum (Pt)-based electrocatalysts with a high mass activity, deposited on durable conductive support materials, is necessary. In this study, we describe a facile appro...

Tuning the Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Nitrostyrenes Catalyzed by Ionic Liquid- Supported Platinum Nanoparticles

Pt nanoparticles (NPs) in the range of 1.7−3.4 nm were synthesized in an ionic liquid (IL). Subsequent immobilization on various solid supports (silica, alumina, titania, carbon nanotubes (CNTs)) in some cases proved to be beneficial. These catalysts exhibited excellent performance in the chemoselective hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene. The presence of the IL, the reaction medium (acidic or basi...

Preparation of Dispersed Platinum Nanoparticles on a Carbon Nanostructured Surface Using Supercritical Fluid Chemical Deposition

We have developed a method of forming platinum (Pt) nanoparticles using a metal organic chemical fluid deposition (MOCFD) process employing a supercritical fluid (SCF), and have demonstrated the synthesis of dispersed Pt nanoparticles on the surfaces of carbon nanowalls (CNWs), two-dimensional carbon nanostructures, and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). By using SCF-MOCFD with supercritical carbon dioxi...

Dispersability of Carbon Nanotubes in Biopolymer-Based Fluids

In this review the dispersability of carbon nanotubes in aqueous solutions containing proteins, or nucleic acids, is discussed. Data reported previously are complemented by unpublished ones. In the mentioned nanotube-based systems several different phases are observed, depending on the type and concentration of biopolymer, as well as the amount of dispersed nanotubes. The phase behavior depends...

Nano Analysis in Biochemistry: In Vitro Separation and Determination of Aluminium in Blood of Dialysis Patients Based on Graphene Oxide Nanoparticles Dispersed to Ionic Liquid

The highest concentration of aluminium (Al) in human blood has toxic effect and so, extraction from human body is very important. In this procedure, an efficient and new method based on graphene oxide nanoparticles (GONPs) dispersed in ionic liquid (IL) was used for in-vitro separation/extraction of trace Al from the blood of dialysis patients by ultrasound assisted-dispersive-micro solid phase...
